"Suck for Luck"?

For the teams stuck at the bottom of the NFL, many fans have (semi) jokingly started a movement called "Suck for Luck".  They are talking about the man who will someday be the probable savior for a city that will deal with the misery of watching their team take a pounding Sunday after Sunday until Christmas, and hoping that come Draft Day 2012, Andrew Luck will be holding up their team's #1 jersey and putting on their cap.  The idea of "Suck for Luck" begs the question that has been asked over and over again: would a team actually lose on purpose to get the best player to come out of college football in a very long time?

The Miami Dolphins, who's starting quarterback may be out for the rest of the year after suffering an injury during last weeks game, worked out two NFL journeymen quarterbacks this past week, but signed neither. They had reportedly had talks with former Jaguars quarterback David Garrard, but scoffed at his demand of a $1 Million guaranteed contract.  At the moment the Dolphins only have one quarterback on their roster and are in no hurry to reveal who will be taking his spot if another quarterback goes down (but they will have to before Saturday), and while it may be inappropriate to suggest that they are purposely setting themselves up to fail, it really seems like they are.  A NFL team without a quarterback does not work, it is impossible.  The Dolphis are going through the motions of "working out" quarterbacks and denying other QBs (David Garrard) valid demands for their contracts.  They have the plausible deniability of actually "Sucking for Luck" because of the tryouts they are holding, but in the end going into a football game with only one actual quarterback on your roster seems to be a big giveaway of what is actually going on there.
